Bristol Industrial Historic District is a national historic district located at Bristol, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses nine contributing buildings in a wholly industrial area of Bristol. General Stores and Mold Loft Building-Harriman Yard of the Merchant Shipbuilding Corporation, also known as Manhattan Soap Company Warehouse, is a historic warehouse located at Bristol, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1917, and is a three-story, rectangular reinforced concrete building.
The clock tower, which was built in 1911 and is 168 feet (51 m) tall, was the subject of a 2017 painting by Jean-Marc Dubus, an immigrant from Nice, France, and current resident of Langhorne, Pennsylvania. The painting is on display at the Centre for the Arts in Bristol. Other buildings in the complex range from one to seven stories tall.

A total of 81 ships were built by the company—40 at the Bristol plant and 41 at Chester. All 40 ships from the Bristol yard were Type #1025 freighters. The Chester yard built 22 freighters, 10 oil tankers, four U.S. Navy minesweepers, four passenger-cargo liners, and one fireboat. [11] [12] More than half the ships were scrapped in the 1930s.
The Bristol housing project—the largest single housing project undertaken by the EFC—created an entire new township in Bristol which was dubbed "Harriman" after the proprietor of the MSC. Construction began in March 1918 and the first buildings were completed by July, although workers at first declined to occupy them due to high rents.
