Since anaplas vac requires 2 shots 6 weeks apart and a booster thereafter yearly I am happy to just continue to feed medicated mineral instead of repeated gathering and working other than fall and spring works as necessary. Especially since Medicated Wind and Rain doesn't have a withdraw period.
ive used it for almost a year now,an the rain doesnt make it get rock hard.wevehad about 8in of rain in a month.an it hasnt hurt the mineral at all.i just put out a 50lb sack.an i took my hand an broke up the minerals that was left with ease.
50lbs of Purina Wind and Rain Mineral costs $46 here. Mine eat 1/2LB a day so a sack lasts 50 days which seems rather expensive. But that's mineral not protein lick. I've been feeding them a few of lbs 20% cubes to help them digest the old dry grass. Those cubes are $26 a sack. Seems rather expensive.
I have put out the wind Rain mineral with the fly control from tractor supply. The reception has been great, however I can't tell who is getting it and who is not. I put out about 3 to 4 pounds every morning before I go to work and when I come in fro work the trough is cleaned out. I have it near the water tubs so as to encourage them eating it.
What I've used for a while now as well. Primarily because ALL of the zinc, managanese, copper and cobalt is in chelated form. Wind and Rain with Fly Control contains 0.014% S-Methoprene, according to the label. I understand there are other salt and mineral benefits to Wind and Rain with Fly Control but you can buy minerals for less than $10 per 50 lbs. Wind and Rain with Fly Control costs $47.99 per 50lbs at my local TSC.
You asked about Purina. They have a summer wind and rain mineral, but when I read the description it doesn't mention heat. They also have a wind and rain fescue mineral, which they claim helps. I don't know if there are studies proving it. Fescue causes problems with both heat and cold.
I am fixing to start wind rain and fly control minerals this week. What type of mineral blocks do you think my cows need. All are grown and some are pregnant. I fed a 200 lb tube of 27% protein tub to them last week. 8 of them ate it in a week. Just want the best salt/copper/sulfur mineral...
