Georgia Southwestern ended operations on the line from Preston to Mahrt in 1999, and the state of Georgia sought a new operator for the entire route from Vidalia to Mahrt, part of which was still retained by the Georgia Southwestern. The Heart of Georgia railroad was created in 1999 for the purpose of operating the line on behalf of the state. [8]
There is a second CSX line, partially known as the Georgia Subdivision, and was formerly owned by Georgia Railroad and Banking Company, is a connection to Atlanta. CSX has two railroad yards in the city. The main railroad yard is located off of Laney Walker Boulevard southeast of downtown. The yard covers approximately 117 acres (47 ha).
One of the proposed routes would run through Coshocton, Tuscarawas and Harrison counties.

Trains departed from Atlanta at 8:50 a.m. and 7 p.m. and arrived there at 1:35 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Not much has happened in between 1867 and now, track realignments in some areas resulted in height clearances and track improvements. CSXT 8029 is waiting for another train at the siding at Tunnel Hill, Georgia, on the Western & Atlantic Sub.
