Madeira Airport (Portuguese: Aeroporto da Madeira) (IATA: FNC, ICAO: LPMA), informally Funchal Airport (Aeroporto do Funchal), formerly Santa Catarina Airport (Aeroporto de Santa Catarina) and officially Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, is an international airport in the civil parish of Santa Cruz in the Portuguese archipelago and autonomous region of Madeira.
The new terminal was further enlarged in 1988 and 2000, reaching the present 8,703 m 2. In 1978, the runway 14/32 was opened allowing a great increase in traffic. In 1995, the airport was upgraded to international category and started receiving particularly seasonal and charter flights from Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
It was built to serve Porto Airport, and is situated immediately outside the main terminal of that airport. The station is the terminus of line E of the Metro, which provides a direct connection to the centre of the city of Porto.
