The district was formed in 1962 after previous administration of Ventura College had been in combination with the Ventura High School District. The district offices share a building with the Ventura Unified School District at 255 W. Stanley Ave., Ventura. [1] The building was the corporate headquarters for Kinkos until 2002.
The foundation held annual scholarship competitions in the areas where Gemco had stores. Each competition placed competitors, who were high school seniors selected by their schools, in a panel discussion format with judges questioning them about their views on discussion topics and requiring that they defend their positions.
Arrangements were made to have the college's governance transferred to El Camino College, a neighboring college. [45] Its new name, as a division of El Camino College, was "El Camino College Compton Center." Under El Camino College the "Center" was fully accredited. Compton College was re-established as a separate college in 2017. [26] [27]
It opened in 1960 as California Lutheran College and was California's first four-year liberal arts college and the first four-year private college in Ventura County.
