Wyndham is a rural town of 579 people in the South Island of New Zealand in the Southland region, 45 km (28 mi) east of Invercargill and 25 km (15 mi) south of Gore. The original Māori name of the locality was Mokoreta (clear or sweet water).

The South Island [a] (Māori: Te Waipounamu [tɛ wɐ.i.pɔ.ʉ.nɐ.mʉ], lit. 'the waters of Greenstone') is the largest of the three major islands of New Zealand in surface area, the others being the smaller but more populous North Island and sparsely populated Stewart Island.
Edendale is defined by Statistics New Zealand as a rural settlement. It covers 2.92 km 2 (1.13 sq mi) and had an estimated population of 630 as of June 2024, [2] with a population density of 216 people per km 2. It is part of the wider Edendale-Woodlands statistical area. [1]

The East Kimberley Road District was gazetted on 10 February 1887. It was renamed as the Wyndham Road District on 4 September 1896. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire of Wyndham–East Kimberley following the passage of the Local Government Act 1960, which reformed all remaining road districts into shires.
Wyndham is a village located 519 km (322 mi) south of Sydney, on the far south coast of New South Wales, Australia in the Bega Valley Shire. At the 2016 census, Wyndham had a population of 386. [2] It had grown to 418 at the 2021 census. [3] Neighbouring towns are Bega, Merimbula, Pambula, Candelo and Bombala.
