The college is on the Circular Road and Majitha Road in the holy city of Amritsar and provides MBBS course to 250 medical students every year. Besides, it also provides MD/MS courses to 140 post-graduate students in many specialties.
MBBS course at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) commenced in 1960 with an initial intake capacity of 100 students. The intake was subsequently increased to 136 in 1987 and further to 156 in 1992.
