Ernest John Henry Mackay (5 July 1880 – 2 October 1943) was a British archeologist from Bristol known for his excavations and studies of Mohenjo-daro and other sites belonging to the Indus Valley civilisation.
The statue is 10.5 centimetres (4.1 in) tall, and depicts a nude young woman or girl with stylized ornaments, standing in a confident, naturalistic pose. Dancing Girl is highly regarded as a work of art. The statue was excavated by British archaeologist Ernest Mackay in the "HR area" of Mohenjo-daro in 1926. [2]

It is made of bricks with a very similar color to the buildings from Mohenjo-daro or Harappa. One entrance has a geometric pattern made of bricks similar to those of the original gates.
