This is a list of Michigan Wolverines football players who have attained notability through their performance in the sport of American football and other endeavors. The list includes over 750 players, including more than 50 All-Americans, three Heisman Trophy winners (Tom Harmon, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson), six U.S. Congressmen, and a President of the United States (Gerald Ford).
Since 1898, 145 Michigan Wolverines football players have earned first-team All-American honors recognized by the NCAA [a] (including 76 consensus All-Americans on 89 separate selections). [1] [2] There are two players who have earned the distinction three times: Bennie Oosterbaan (1925–1927) and Anthony Carter (1980–1982).
On March 22, 2023, Carter signed with the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League (USFL). [19] He was placed on injured reserve on May 9, 2023. [20] He appeared in five games with five starts, making four tackles and one sack. He was re-signed by the team on August 16, 2024. [21]
Taylor was also named the Most Valuable Player of the 1971 Michigan football team that went undefeated in the regular season (but lost 13-12 to Stanford in the 1972 Rose Bowl game). The team was ranked in the top 5 all season and had four All-Americans. [5] Although Taylor played in 33 games at Michigan he only carried the ball in 30 of them.

The 1976 Michigan Wolverines football team represented the University of Michigan in the 1976 Big Ten Conference football season. In their eighth year under head coach Bo Schembechler , the Wolverines finished the season with a 10–2 record, won the Big Ten Conference championship, and played in the 1977 Rose Bowl .
