The first Sun God Festival coincided with the one-year anniversary of Sun God ' s arrival in 1984. [2] [3] The festival's original location was adjacent to the statue, but it has since grown and moved numerous times, from Price Center to the now-demolished Mile High Field, eventually finding a more permanent home at its current location on RIMAC field.
The two-day festival was first held in 2015 at the newly built Waterfront Park in San Diego. The park has lawns and large walk-in fountains. A mix of electronic and independent music is performed on three stages. There were 15,000 attendees per day at CRSSD Festival Spring 2024. [1] CRSSD Festival is pronounced as “crossed festival”. [2]
CRSSD Festival has been a mainstay in the California electronic dance music circuit since 2015. [16] It's held in San Diego twice a year. [16] Artists from other genres have emerged and found success. Frank Zappa briefly operated in San Diego with progressive band The Mothers of Invention.
