Modern Pagaruyung is a village in Tanjung Emas subdistrict, Tanah Datar regency, located near the town of Batusangkar, Indonesia. Prior to its establishment, the kingdom was part of Malayapura, [4] a kingdom that the Amoghapasa inscription mentions was ruled by Adityawarman, [5] who established himself as the ruler of Bhumi Malayu (Suvarnabhumi).
Atar is located approximately 23 km (10 mi) away from the regency capital at Batusangkar, and is one of two nagari in Padang Ganting. It is the larger nagari, although less populated, making up 50.25 km 2 (19.40 sq mi) out of 83.5 km 2 (32.2 sq mi) area of Padang Ganting.
