Earle Davis Gregory was born in Clayville, Virginia on October 18, 1897. Gregory was raised in Chase City, Virginia and graduated from Fork Union Military Academy. He entered Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1919, graduating with the Class of 1923. While at VPI, he studied Electrical Engineering.
