Hines Park consists of 25 recreation areas linked by Edward N. Hines Drive, a 17.5-mile (28.2 km) scenic drive. Hines Park is named after Edward N. Hines , a member of the Wayne County Road Commission who advocated for the park's creation.

Adjacent to Burns, Hines built a company town, incorporated as the City of Hines in 1930. Edward Hines and his wife, Loretta, designed the city around an oval park surrounded by houses with individual features meant to prevent mill-town housing monotony.
