Established in 1956 the course was run as Master of Commerce in Business Administration under the aegis of Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Commerce, University of Lucknow. Later on in 1976 it was named Masters in Business Administration. The admission for the post graduate programme is done through Common Admission Test (CAT).

The Isabella Thoburn College (formerly the Lucknow Women's College and often called informally IT College) is a private multidisciplinary (humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management and engineering) college for women in Lucknow, India, named after its founder, Isabella Thoburn, the first woman American missionary of the Methodist Episcopal Church to sail in India 1869.
In 2013, as a new government came into power, the university was formed again by combining the two on 5 January 2013. [3] It is an affiliating university, with approximately 800 colleges affiliated to it. [4] The university was earlier on the IET Lucknow campus. Now it is in its newly inaugurated campus in Jankipuram, Lucknow.
