The XJ6 replaced most of Jaguar's saloons – which, in the 1960s, had expanded to four separate ranges. It carried over the the 2.8-litre (2,792 cc (170.4 cu in)) and 4.2-litre (4,235 cc (258.4 cu in)) cylinder versions of Jaguar's renowned straight-six XK engine, and front and rear suspensions, from previous models: the widest version of Jaguar's IRS unit from the Mark X, and the subframe ...

[2] The J.72 was a success for the small company, with its Connolly leather upholstery, and aluminum coachwork.
The Jaguar XJ (XJ40) is a full-size luxury saloon manufactured by Jaguar Cars between 1986 and 1994. It was officially unveiled on 8 October 1986 as an all-new, second generation of the XJ to replace the Series III, although the two model ranges were sold concurrently until the Series III was discontinued in 1992.
The Lucas fuel injection system on the 3.6 L (3,590 cc) AJ6 engines in these early XJ-S cars sensed engine load using a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor just like the V12 cars from the same era. Later 3.6 L (3,590 cc) AJ6 engines as used in the 1986–1989 XJ40 cars had a crank-sensor type of ignition system with a bare distributor that ...
