If you get a somewhat ribbed, large tomato (12-16 oz) that's the faux Box Car Willie. It's a good tomato from all accounts, but it's not BCW. If you get a globe-shaped 5-10oz, that's the real Box Car Willie. BCW is known for setting well in high temps, along with Mule Team, Sioux, Ark. Traveler, etc. I hope to taste one or both this year.

I haven't seen it for two or three years. I grew it back in 2008 and then, just for grins, tried some seed saved from the original plant in 2009.

Seed saved from Brandy Boy will not come true in the F2 generation, as it is with all hybrids. There are no hybrid (F1) heirlooms. All heirlooms are open-pollinated varieties.
Therefore, I sell plants that are about 6 weeks old in 24/flat pots, or that are about 8 weeks old in 3.5 inch pots (18 per flat), or that are about 10 weeks old in 3 quart pots. I upgrade the pots as plants over-grow their previous pots. At my farmer's market, none of the farmer's sell tomato plants in packs. I base prices on greenhouse space ...
This year I am getting an agricultural permit, costs $25.00 here in Nevada and will allow me to sell plants, if I still have enough, at a friend's breakfast cafe and not get a vendor's license for one day. Preorders in a 4 inch pot were $1.25 and straight sales were $1.50. This was at eight weeks.
Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, early in the season, had packs of 9 Jobes tomato spikes for $1.00. sometimes I can find the 18 spike packs for around $2 or $2.50 but more like $3 to $3.50 is what most local stores are charging. Most people here don;t plant out until at least mid May, if not early June.
