Yampa River State Park provides 13 access points for boaters along 134 miles (216 km) of the Yampa River from Hayden to the eastern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument. The lake is on Arroyo Valle (Spanish for "creek of the valley") in the Diablo Range, and is formed by Del Valle Dam, completed in 1968 (57 years ago) (). The Yampa River flows 250 miles (400 km) through northwestern Colorado, United States. Elkhead Reservoir State Park is managed as a complex out of the Yampa River State Park office, located to the west of the town of Hayden, CO.
