Ibadan (UK: / ɪ ˈ b æ d ən /, US: / ɪ ˈ b ɑː d ən /; [5] Yoruba: Ìbàdàn) is the capital and most populous city of Oyo State, in Nigeria.It is the third-largest city by population in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano, with a total population of 3,649,000 as of 2021, and nearly 4 million within its metropolitan area.
Robert A. Jones (1882–1949), also known as "Taffy" was a Welsh man who worked in southern Nigeria between 1910 and 1944. He was a member of Ibadan Native Authority in 1923 as a road engineer, where he remained until his retirement to Wales. [4] He is also ascribed as being the engineer who built the Manor House in Iseyin. [5]
The Ibadan petrol tanker explosion was a major accident on the road from Ibadan to Ifẹ in Nigeria on 5 November 2000. There was a long tailback and a petrol tanker was unable to brake in time and so rammed the queue, causing an explosion and fire which destroyed over 100 vehicles and killed many people.
