The Girls were an American all-female band from Los Angeles, California, United States. They initially called themselves The Sandoval Sisters and The Moonmaids before settling on The Girls in 1965, when they signed a recording contract with Capitol Records . [ 1 ]
The girls were originally members of the Liverpool vocal group The Vernons Girls. Prescott was replaced by Jean Ryder in 1963. [1] They started out as the Fordettes, backing Emile Ford. The line-up consisted of Margot Quantrell, Eleanor Russell, Vicki Haseman and Betty Prescott. They spent a year on tour with Ford in 1960, playing one-nighters.
The original Vernons Girls disbanded at the start of the 1960s, but a smaller unit carried on, headed by Maureen Kennedy. Most of the other members performed as duos and singing trios. Amongst them were the Redmond Twins, the Breakaways , the Pearls , the DeLaine Sisters, and the longest surviving and best known, the Ladybirds.
