The Blackwell Inn is an upscale full-service hotel located on-campus at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. It is located adjacent to The Max M. Fisher College of Business . The Blackwell Inn is named after Roger Blackwell , a marketing professor who pledged $7 million to the university in 2001. [ 1 ]
The hotel was completed in 1959, operating for decades in prosperity. Beginning in the late 20th century, the South Wind Motel began to take on a different clientele, and offered rooms by the hour. The site became known for drug dealing and crime. After a period of vacancy, a local developer purchased the hotel in 2021.
In 1962, Columbus hotels spent about $5 million in upgrades to decor, air conditioning, and other alterations. The hotels were aiming to meet competition from the new Columbus Plaza, as well as from the Christopher Inn, hotels both set to open in 1963.
