The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of 2,111 square kilometres (815 sq mi) and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. [ 1 ]
Moorabool Shire Council is composed of one multi-member ward electing nine members. Prior to the 2024 election, it was composed of four wards (three single-member and one four-member), but the electoral structure has changed as a result of the Local Government Act 2020 .
Bacchus Marsh is the largest urban area in the Shire of Moorabool local government area. Traditionally a market garden area producing a large amount of the region's fruits and vegetables , in recent decades it has transformed into the main commuter town on the Melbourne-Ballarat corridor.

In 1876 the first school was opened, known for a short time as Burnt Hill State School (State School number 2176). Four years later the school was renamed Scotts Marsh and in 1889 it was again renamed, this time to Scotsburn. The school is now an annexe of Buninyong Primary School.
Millbrook is a locality in the state of Victoria, Australia, located 90 kilometres (56 mi) north west of Melbourne. It was formerly called "Moorabool" but the name was changed to avoid confusion with a locality near Geelong. The name "Millbrook" was adopted because of a flour mill erected by Matthew Butterly on the West Moorabool creek. [2]
