Sky Above Clouds (1960–1977) is a series of eleven cloudscape paintings by the American modernist painter Georgia O'Keeffe, produced during her late period. The series of paintings is inspired by O'Keeffe's views from her airplane window during her frequent air travel in the 1950s and early 1960s when she flew around the world.
Fires blaze in the hills. The foreground of the painting consists of brown rocks in Heaven and brown burnt trees in Hell. In the middle-ground is the river and the grasslands in bright hues of blue and green. The background, which is cut off by the horizon line of the darker blue river, is a pale blue sky highlighted with white and gray clouds.
On the sky's background, gray horizontal cloud streaks are visible. Just above the horizon the golden-yellow shield of the Moon, partially covered with a gray, cloudy stripe, is painted. Its reflection over the surface of the water is visible in the shape of a golden vertical streak running from a distant horizon, towards the viewer.
A cloudscape painting by Jacob Isaakszoon van Ruisdael. In art, a cloudscape is the depiction of a view of clouds or the sky.Usually, as in the examples seen here, the clouds are depicted as viewed from the earth, often including just enough of a landscape to suggest scale, orientation, weather conditions, and distance (through the application of the technique of aerial perspective).
The False Mirror is a surrealist oil on canvas painting by René Magritte, from 1928. It depicts a human eye framing a cloudy, blue sky. [1] [2] [3] In the depiction of the eye in the painting, the clouds take the place normally occupied by the iris. [4] [5] [6] The painting's original French title is Le faux miroir. [7]
One of them, titled Cloudy Sky, shows dark purple clouds in a blue sky, while the other, titled Sky, shows grey clouds with yellow and pink colours used to paint the sky. [55] Another sketch, titled Lake, is also held in a private collection in Moscow [48] (as of 1966, in the collection of L.F. Ilyichev). [55] [69]
