"Transmission" is a song by English post-punk band Joy Division. Originally recorded in 1978 for the band's aborted self-titled album , it was later re-recorded the following year at a faster tempo and released by record label Factory as the band's debut single.
It was released in 2000. The album was re-released as "Before and After – The BBC Sessions" in 2004, the Joy Division tracks included were the same, but it also contained a New Order album. The entire track listing of the album was later released as the second disc in the UK edition of The Best of Joy Division in 2008.
Joy Division have influenced many bands, including their contemporaries the Cure and U2. [106] In 1980, U2 singer Bono said that Joy Division were "one of the most important bands of the last four or five years". John Meagher, who wrote for the "Day & Night" section of The Irish Independent, wrote that "there's nothing here to attract existing fans of either bands.Instead, all Total does is to reinforce the idea that Joy Division/New Order was a hugely exciting source of music between 1978 and 1990 and New Order has been a pitiful shadow of their once-visionary selves ever since."
