In English writing, quotation marks or inverted commas, also known informally as quotes, talking marks, [1] [2] speech marks, [3] quote marks, quotemarks or speechmarks, are punctuation marks placed on either side of a word or phrase in order to identify it as a quotation, direct speech or a literal title or name.
Because "Dawn Treader" is the name of a ship, it gets double italics, or, in other words, is turned back to Roman text, thus reading: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This last version, however, collides with the rest of the text of the sentence, making it impossible to distinguish the title of the book. For example:

Do not put quotations in italics unless the quoted material would otherwise call for italics, such as for emphasis and the use of non-English words (see the Manual of Style). Indicate whether italics were used in the original text or whether they were added later. For example: Now cracks a noble heart.
