A reed pipe comprises a metal tongue (the reed) which rests against a shallot, in which is carved a tunnel. The reed and shallot are held in place by a wooden wedge. This assembly protrudes from the underside of the block and hangs down into the boot. A tuning wire is inserted through the boot and is bent to hold the reed against the shallot.
In a rank of stopped pipes, the lowest pipe is 4 feet in length but sounds at unison pitch—that is, at the same pitch as an 8 ′ open pipe—so it is known as an 8 ′ stop. Reed pipes are also labeled the same as that of an open pipe with the same pitch, regardless of the actual length of the pipe.
Reed is the soundbox of lusheng, mostly is made from ringing copper. [7] Its size varies depending on the pitch: The pitch of c, c1, c2 has the length of 4 cm, 3.5 cm, 2.5 cm, and the width of 0.25 cm, 0.2 cm, 0.15 cm, respectively. [3] The lusheng reed can also be made of brass, while it is not as crisp as the sound of copper. [7]
The sound of an organ pipe is made up of a set of harmonics formed by acoustic resonance, with wavelengths that are fractions of the length of the pipe. There are nodes of stationary air, and antinodes of moving air, two of which will be the two ends of an open-ended organ-pipe (the mouth, and the open end at the top). [1]

The pitch of a single bank of reeds is traditionally defined in a similar manner to the organ stops of a pipe organ.A bank that sounds at unison pitch when keys are depressed is called 8′ (pronounced "eight-foot") pitch: alluding to the length of the lowest-sounding organ pipe in that rank, which is approximately eight feet.
A mixture is an organ stop, usually of principal tone quality, that contains multiple ranks of pipes including at least one mutation stop.It is designed to be drawn with a combination of stops that forms a complete chorus, for example, principals of 8 foot (8 ′), 4 ′, and 2 ′ pitches.
