The Mustang's front suspension makes use of MacPherson struts with longer lower control arms, new spindles, anti-roll bars, and other enhancements over 1993 and older Mustangs. The rear control arm pivot points were lowered 1/2-inch on the upper end and 1/4-inch on the lower end for improved suspension geometry. In addition, quad shocks replaced the old-style traction bars and the rear anti-roll bar diameter increased to 0.79 inches (20 mm) compared to 0.67 inches (17 mm) in 1983.

Lakewood Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Lakewood Heights, Atlanta, Georgia. Opened in 1927, the plant was the first that the UAW staged a strike against, in 1936. Initially, Lakewood was referred to as 'Atlanta' and coded as '8' on vehicle VIN plates, changing to 'A' when GM reshuffled their codes for 1953.
