In 1987 Dennis White completed a three-year effort to construct the Frogtown International Speedway in the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne territory by holding its first racing event. The Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne (/ ˌ æ k w ə ˈ s æ s n eɪ / AK-wə-SAS-neh; [5] French: Nation Mohawk à Akwesasne; Mohawk: Ahkwesáhsne) is a Mohawk Nation (Kanienʼkehá:ka) territory that straddles the intersection of international (United States and Canada) borders and provincial (Ontario and Quebec) boundaries on both banks of the St. Lawrence River.
The race replaced the Queen City Pace run from 1964 to 1983. From 1984 to 1993, the North America Cup was held at Greenwood Raceway and from 1994 to 2006, the North America Cup was held at Woodbine Entertainment Group's other harness racing venue, Woodbine Racetrack. It is the richest harness race in North America at $1,000,000. [2]
