It makes sense to me to keep the bedding material and the stock material as close as possible in physical properties to ensure a monolithic block. Also if the stock/bedding material has a lower ...

Most manufacturers claim 100% but in science and real life it is more like 98, 98.5 which is close for hand grenades but bedding compound, eh. This is why a lot of bedding compounds have non non compressable fillers to reduce the amount of actual epoxy for a given volume to reduce shrinkage.

    522. Oct 13, 2019. #9. The large containers of Devcon are around $75. You'd be throwing about $65 of epoxy in the trash, worth saving, IMO. I've noticed the same thing on Devcon. The closer to the expiration date it gets, the longer it takes to cure. It will eventually harden, but it might take a day instead of 6hrs.

Hello all, Just ran to OSH (Orchard Supply & Hardware in California) to look for the Devcon plastic steel epoxy tonight, for use to bed the scope base on my Howa. I read from other Cali shooters that OSH had the Devcon plastic steel so I thought, great, I don't have to order it from Brownells and wait a week...

Re: Proper Mixing of Devcon epoxy I always wondered why Devcon doesn't offer the plastic steel in their cartridge system with the disposable mixing nozzles. I use a similar system from 3m for non gun related projects and love it. Unfortunatly, as far as I know, there are no suitable products being offered in a cartridge system from any maker.

Jul 30, 2014. #38. Yep, Belzona 1111 appears the most suitable of their products for bedding. They say shrinkage is less than .025%, which is pretty remarkable (Devcon 10110 is .06%, which is still great). Compressive strength and hardness also beat Devcon, although I think both are plenty strong for rifle bedding.

    1. It is hard to get proper mixing in the corners of containers. 2. The reaction generates heat. Mixing in a container retains the heat, thus causing the whole pot to kick faster. Mixing on a flat surface will give you longer pot life - for large mixtures a lot longer pot life.
