Pennsylvania Route 61 (PA 61) is an 81.8-mile-long (131.6 km) state highway that is located in Pennsylvania in the United States. The route is signed north-south despite running in a northwest-southeast direction from U.S. Route 222 Business (US 222 Bus.) in Reading to US 11/US 15/PA 147 in Shamokin Dam.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Ashland has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.3 km 2), all land. [3] Ashland is served by Pennsylvania Route 54 and Pennsylvania Route 61. PA 54 leads east-northeast 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to Girardville and 9 miles (14 km) to Shenandoah, and northwest 16 miles (26 km) to Elysburg.
In 1961, the section of PA 54 between Mausdale and Ashland was replaced by PA 45 in order simplify route numbers by connecting the two segments of that route. [8] On May 9, 1966, PA 54 was extended to its current eastern terminus by replacing PA 45 between Mausdale and Nesquehoning; this change was made to establish a direct connection to I-80. [9]
