Samson were a British heavy metal band formed in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Paul Samson. [1] They are best known for their first three albums with future Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson, then known as "Bruce Bruce", and drummer Thunderstick (real name Barry Graham Purkis), who wore a leather mask and performed on stage in a metal cage.
After two years performing under the moniker Paul Samson's Rogues, the eponymous frontman formed a new lineup of Samson in 1992, with drummer Tony Tuohy and returning bassist Chris Aylmer. [13] The group continued to tour and released Samson in 1993. [14] Tuohy left in early 1994 and the band broke up again. [13]
In 2007, Samson and Fateman formed a new project, MEN, as a DJ, production, and remix team.After initial songwriting and outside remix work, Fateman took time off to have a child, and Samson recruited the members of her side band Hirsute, including Ladybug Transistor's Michael O'Neill and Ginger Brooks Takahashi, to perform live as MEN.
Nicholas Charles Moore (21 June 1947 – 3 August 2022) was an English blues, rock and heavy metal singer, who was best known as a member of the British band Samson. He replaced Bruce Dickinson who left the band to join Iron Maiden in 1982. Moore left Samson in the late 1980s and rejoined in the late 1990s.
Dickinson's son Austin was the lead singer in metalcore band Rise to Remain until their break-up in 2015, [116] at which point he formed the alternative metal group As Lions. [117] His other son Griffin, who previously worked as a stage carpenter for Iron Maiden during their tours, [118] was the lead singer of melodic hardcore band SHVPES. [119]
