Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (IATA: ATL, ICAO: KATL, FAA LID: ATL) is the primary international airport serving Atlanta and its surrounding metropolitan area, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The airport is located 10 mi (16 km; 8.7 nmi) south of the Downtown Atlanta district.
The primary responsibility of Atlanta Center is sequencing and separation of over-flights, arrivals, and departures in order to provide safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of aircraft. Atlanta Center is the busiest air traffic control facility in the world. In 2019, Atlanta Center handled 3,022,513 aircraft operations.
In the year ending December 31, 2021, the airport had 79,449 general aviation aircraft operations, an average of 218 per day. In December 2021, there were 86 aircraft based at this airport: 34 single-engine, 6 multi-engine, 44 jet, and 2 helicopter. [1] The Airport houses a Georgia Army National Guard armory.

The airport's location is on the Rockmart Highway (U.S. Route 278), approximately 25 mi (40 km) from the nearest interstate and 40 mi (64 km) from Midtown Atlanta. Construction was completed in late 2008. It is the ninth local airport in metro Atlanta, and the first new jet-capable airport in Georgia since 1975.

Air Atlanta's first scheduled route was Atlanta-Memphis, with the first flight being operated on February 1, 1984, using a Boeing 727-100 jetliner. By April 1, 1984, nonstop 727 service was being operated Atlanta-Memphis, Atlanta-Miami and Atlanta-New York JFK Airport. [2]
