The City of Wanneroo in Perth, Western Australia was originally established on 31 October 1902 as a road board with a chairman and councillors under the Roads Boards Act 1871. With the passage of the Local Government Act 1960 , all road boards became Shires with a shire president and councillors effective 1 July 1961.
The Wanneroo City Council operates out of the Council Chambers on Dundebar Road, Wanneroo. The current mayor is Linda Aitken, [54] who was elected in September 2022. Elections are held every four years, for a mayor and 14 councillors across the city's seven electoral wards, covering 36 suburbs. Two councillors are elected to each of the wards. [55]
She was a councillor for the City of Wanneroo from 2003 to 2022, and mayor from 2011 to 2022. She was also the president of the Western Australian Local Government Association from March 2020 to 2022, a vice president of the Australian Local Government Association.

Wanneroo is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is located in the northern suburbs of Perth . Wanneroo is a traditionally a marginal seat ; it has been held by the government of the day on every occasion since its creation in 1989.
