Kurt-Caesar Hoffmann (26 August 1895 – 19 May 1988) was a senior naval commander in the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) during World War II, who commanded the battleship Scharnhorst. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .

On 1 April 1942, Hoffmann, who had been promoted to Konteradmiral (Rear Admiral) and awarded the Knight's Cross, transferred command of the ship to KzS Friedrich Hüffmeier. [8] In October 1943, [ 9 ] shortly before Scharnhorst ' s last mission, Hüffmeier was replaced by KzS Fritz Hintze, [ 10 ] who was killed during the ship's final battle.
The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grades were based on four separate enactments.The first enactment, Reichsgesetzblatt I S. 1573 of 1 September 1939 instituted the Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz), the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross (Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes).
