A common framework used when analysing medical ethics is the "four principles" approach postulated by Tom Beauchamp and James Childress in their textbook Principles of Biomedical Ethics. James Franklin Childress (/ ˈ tʃ ɪ l d r ɛ s /; born October 4, 1940) is a philosopher and theologian whose scholarship addresses ethics, particularly biomedical ethics.Currently he is the John Allen Hollingsworth Professor of Ethics at the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia and teaches public Policy at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
