The building was significantly extended to the east, with a new octagonally towered entrance, to the designs of Ealing architect [8] George Fellowes Prynne in 1930. [6] Internally, the extension created a new council chamber and a mayor's parlour as well as a new public hall in the basement which became known as the "Queens Hall". [6]
However, with a decade, the building was considered too small for municipal use and a new town hall, also designed by Charles Jones, was completed on New Broadway in 1888. [10] The local board decided to dispose of the old town hall which was converted for use as a bank. It became the local branch of London and County Bank in 1889.
His most prominent work is that of Ealing Town Hall.Before building could go ahead, Jones also had to find the land and negotiate the purchase. In 1885 he persuaded Edward Wood to sell the whole meadow which lay between the Uxbridge Road and the Great Western Railway cutting and alongside the very old road of Longfield Avenue.
Ealing is home to Ealing Studios, and was a major centre of the UK film industry. Brentford F.C. draw a large amount of local support from the borough, although Griffin Park is situated just outside the borough, in the neighbouring London Borough of Hounslow.
Ealing Town Hall was built in 1886, replacing an earlier hall on the same site. The architect was Charles Jones , who also designed several other buildings and features in the borough. The borough was greatly enlarged in 1926 when it absorbed the urban districts of Greenford (including the parishes of Perivale and West Twyford ) and Hanwell . [ 2 ]
The hall's origins and early history are recorded in Jones' 1904 book Ealing: From Village to Corporate Town.
