Persuasion is the last novel completed by the English author Jane Austen.It was published on 20 December 1817, along with Northanger Abbey, six months after her death, although the title page is dated 1818.
Austen envisions this kind of equal partnership as the ideal marriage, within the limits of 18th century social customs. Margaret Wilson sees Wentworth as combining the dynamic character of Austen's earlier diversionary men and the steadfast qualities needed in a husband.
