It is the county seat of Menominee County. [5] Menominee is the fourth-largest city in the Upper Peninsula, behind Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, and Escanaba.

U.S. Route 41 crosses the township, leading south 15 miles (24 km) to Menominee, the county seat, and north 26 miles (42 km) to Powers. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 31.4 square miles (81 km 2 ), of which 30.8 square miles (80 km 2 ) are land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km 2 ), or 1.80%, are water.
Menominee is Townships 28 (part) and 29 (part) North, Ranges 1 (part) and 2 (part) West of the Fourth Principal Meridian. According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 30.54 square miles (79.1 km 2), of which 28 square miles (73 km 2) (or 91.68%) is land and 2.54 square miles (6.6 km 2) (or 8.32%) is water.

[2] The county seat is Menominee. [3] The county's name comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "wild rice eater" used to describe the Menominee people.
The median age in the city was 23.4 years. 13.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 42% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.5% were from 25 to 44; 14.9% were from 45 to 64; and 11% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.5% male and 50.5% female.
