The Poinsett Hotel, or Westin Poinsett Hotel, is a twelve-story, landmark hotel in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, one of the first skyscrapers in Greenville. Named for Joel R. Poinsett, Secretary of War under President Millard Fillmore, the Poinsett replaced an earlier resort hotel, the Mansion House, built in 1824.
The Westin Poinsett Hotel, named for Joel R. Poinsett (Secretary of War under Millard Fillmore), was one of the first skyscrapers to be built in Greenville. It was designed by New York architect William Lee Stoddart and built by the J. E. Sirrine Company of Greenville for $1.5 million dollars. The Poinsett opened on June 20, 1925. 35
