The DMAX V6 engine is a 3.0 L; 180.5 cu in (2,958 cc) diesel engine. It was designed, and is produced by Isuzu in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan but the design rights to the engine are now owned by General Motors. It uses high-pressure common rail direct injection with four valve per cylinder, cylinder heads.
The Duramax V8 engine is a family of 6.6-liter diesel V8 engines produced by DMAX, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors in Moraine, Ohio.The Duramax block and heads are supplied from reliable vendors of General Motors.
It was used in the Isuzu D-Max LT 4X4 model, produced in Thailand and Australia, as well as in the related Holden Rodeo and first-generation Chevrolet Colorado. The original version is still used in the South African version of the new D-Max, the Isuzu KB, and with the compression ratio reduced to 16.0:1 in the Thai-market D-Max X-series.
DMAX originally was announced in 1997 [1] as a 60-40 joint venture [2] between and operated by General Motors and Isuzu. Diesel engine production started in July 2000. [3] The company's Duramax V8 engine has been extremely successful for GM, raising that company's diesel pickup market share to 30% in 2002, up from approximately 5% in 1999. [4]
The Duramax I4 engine is a family of turbocharged diesel I4 engines sold by General Motors in 2.5 and 2.8 liter sizes as an option for the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Express, and GMC Savana in southeast Asia and Oceania (Australia / New Zealand) from 2012, and in North America from 2016 through 2022.
The predecessor to the MU-X, the Isuzu MU-7 is a D-Max-based SUV with a three-row seating arrangement. The MU-7 was released in Thailand in November 2004, being advertised as a "Sport Utility Wagon". [4] The MU-7 has the same front fascia and chassis as the D-Max but has a covered rear end instead of a truck bed.
The Colorado was released in Australia and New Zealand in 2008 as the Holden Colorado. It replaced the D-Max-based Holden Rodeo due to the split between General Motors and Isuzu. [2] This model is essentially a rebadged version of the facelifted Thai-specification Colorado, retaining its front styling, while everything else is from the Isuzu D-Max.
