Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center (formerly known as Georgia Baptist Hospital [1]) was a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia operated by Wellstar Health System. It had 460 beds and over 700 physicians. The hospital was a Level I Trauma Center, [2] and an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. It housed a Neurointensive Care Unit and a Level III Neonatal ICU. [3]
The hospital received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Society in 1928. After raising $2.5 million from the community in the 1940s, the new 203-bed McLaren General Hospital was dedicated on September 12, 1951, at 401 S. Ballenger Highway in Flint. [ 2 ]
The hospital and its physicians participated in numerous managed care and other health insurance plans throughout Metro Atlanta. The hospital was closed on January 16, 2009, due to credit market conditions. The renovated property was reopened in October 2014 as the Atlanta Center for Medical Research. [4] [5]
In January 2012, Ingham Regional Medical Center was renamed McLaren Greater Lansing. [1] On March 6, 2022, McLaren Greater Lansing closed its two legacy hospitals at 401 w. Greenlawn ave. and 2727 S. Pennsylvania Ave. and moved to their new replacement hospital at 2900 Collins Road.
The hospital had 288 beds, 80 doctors, and around 400 employees. [4] The hospital is owned by the Hospital Authority of Fulton County. [5] In May 1999, Northside's Women's Center opened to the public. [6] Northside Atlanta expanded in 2018 with the eight-story East Tower, which added 81 beds to the hospital's capacity.
