Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in India is an undergraduate academic degree conferred after the completion of a four-year full-time engineering program from All India Council for Technical Education recognised institute.
Also, the three-year PG course (Dip.Tech.) was replaced by a two-year PG course for an Associateship (A.H.B.T.I.), and a further two years of studies for a Fellowship (F.H.B.T.I.). The first Indian to become the Acting Principal was Dattatreya Yashwant Athawale who officiated from 1937 to 1947, followed by D.R. Dhingra who headed from 1947 to 1957.
In 2005 the institute achieved full university status and was renamed Dharmsinh Desai University. The university initiated a bachelor's course in dental surgery in 2005, while the Faculty of Pharmacy was established at the university in 2006. It is the first university in Gujarat to obtain the permission to start nanotechnology courses in 2012.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University was established on 2 October 1972, by an act of State Legislature. On its formation, the Government Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada and Hyderabad, along with the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture at Hyderabad, became its constituent colleges.
After this merging, three-year B.Tech. Degree courses were offered to B.Sc. graduates. Over the years, the institute has expanded its original programmes. Presently, it provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Production Engineering, Rubber and Plastics Technology, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology.
The B.Sc. (Tech.) the degree was changed to a B.Tech. in 1998 in line with AICTE's wish to bring parity with other engineering degrees in India. The college was brought under the academic control of the West Bengal University of Technology in 2001. In the same year, a new B. Tech. course in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced.
The institute has a student population mainly from eastern and north-eastern India. Students are admitted into undergraduate B.Tech. course in July and August, based on their performances in WBJEE. Admission into B.Tech. course in MSIT is competitive and requires good rank in WBJEE. [1]
