The Provincetown CDP comprises the densely populated main settlement within the town of Provincetown. [4] The CDP is bounded by U.S. Route 6 to the north, by the western extension of Massachusetts Route 6A (Province Lands Road) to the southwest, by Provincetown Harbor to the south, and by the Truro town line to the east.
In the central part of town, the route turns southeast along Main Street, then east-northeast along Sandwich Road before beginning a concurrency with Route 28, with the first 0.75 miles (1.21 km) being split one-way between east and west, just south of Route 25, the major connecting highway between Cape Cod and I-195 and I-495.

Route 62 is an 82.1817-mile-long (132.2586 km) east–west state route in Massachusetts.The route crosses four of the Bay State's 13 interstates (I-190, I-495, I-93, and I-95), as well as U.S. Route 1 (US 1), US 3, Route 2 and Route 128 as it heads from the northern hills of Worcester County through the northern portions of Greater Boston, ending in the North Shore city of Beverly at Route 127.
This Provincetown village grew and thrived from 1818 until the late 1850s. When the settlers decided to leave Long Point, they took most of their houses with them – about 30 structures in all – by floating them across the harbor.
This new highway designation was first seen on state highway maps in 1978. [10] However, it appears that ultimately the SR 40 section was not included in the new route designation—the present-day SR 169 alignment appears on the 1982 map while the Valley of Fire Road and southernmost miles of SR 12 were left without new state route numbers.
