In 1914, Glenkinchie joined Rosebank, St Magdalene, Grange and Clydesdale to form Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD) and in 1925 SMD merged with The Distillers Company (DCL). [5] In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky. [6] Guinness acquired The Distillers Company in 1986. [7]
Glenkinchie Distillery (2005) As a region, the Lowlands have been more strongly associated with grain whisky and blended whisky than malt whisky. In 1980, Hillside distillery was renamed Glenesk distillery, licensed to William Sanderson & Sons Ltd,.and used in the Vat 69 blended whisky. [ 3 ] In 1985, DLC mothballed the distillery, and in 1996, the stills were removed, and all buildings, except for maltings, were demolished.
