Orkes Melayu singer Ellya Khadam switched to dangdut in the 1970s, and by 1972, she was the number-one artist in Indonesia. Her success, along with that of Rhoma Irama, meant that by 1975, 75 per cent of all recorded music in Indonesia was of the dangdut genre, with pop bands such as Koes Plus adopting the style. The festival originated from a nightclub event in 2008 called Blowfish Warehouse Project at Jakarta's renowned night club Blowfish. Featuring 3 arenas within the club's vicinity, the festival's first edition boasted more than 5.000 audience. The second edition of the festival was planned to be held on 24 April 2010.
