California Department of Parks and Recreation Saddleback Butte State Park is a state park in the Antelope Valley of the western Mojave Desert , in Southern California . It is located east of Lancaster , north of the community of Lake Los Angeles , and south of Edwards in the unincorporated community of Hi Vista .

Other coniferous trees, such as white fir, bigcone Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga macrocarpa), incense cedar, and western juniper also thrive here. Canyon live oak, California black oak, and Pacific dogwood are other trees that also grow here. The forest contains an estimated 87,400 acres (354 km 2) of old growth.
Dawson Saddle is a saddle and mountain pass over the San Gabriel Mountains located in northeastern Los Angeles County, California, United States. At 7,943 ft (2,421 m), it is the highest point along the Angeles Crest Highway and the second highest mountain pass in Southern California after Onyx Summit .
The area is not known to support any listed, sensitive or rare species. [Note 1]The sandy substrate in an area of approximately 3 square miles (1,920 acres / 7.8 square kilometres) provides habitat for the Mojave fringe-toed lizard, a highly adapted sand-dwelling species.
