The Kauai Plantation Railway is a heritage railroad on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.Built in 2006 and opened in January 2007, the railroad operates on a 2.5-mile (4 km) long track within the Kilohana Plantation and offers passenger rides around the plantation, pulled by a 1940s diesel locomotive.
The plantation struggled until William Harrison Rice built the first irrigation system in 1856. [7] Subsequent plantation owner Paul Isenberg helped German people emigrate to Lihue starting in 1881, with the first Lutheran church in Hawaii founded in 1883. [8] Services were held in German well into the 1960s.
The gardens were created in the 1930s by Alexandra Moir while her husband was manager of Hawaii's first sugarcane plantation, Koloa Plantation, near the site.
