The museum is named after He Xiangning, former leading person in the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, wife of assassinated leader of the KMT left, Liao Zhongkai, mother of the late Overseas Chinese Commission Head Liao Chengzhi, and an amateur artist. It is the first national art museum in China to be named after a person.
The building has an area of approximately 72,000 square meters, with 6 floors above ground and 3 floors underground. It is designed to hold 8 million books and provides 2,500 seats. The building is white, echoing the new building of the Shenzhen Art Museum. It can be reached by taking the Shenzhen Metro Line 4 or Line 6 to Hongshan Station. [1] [2]
