Baldwin County was established on December 21, 1809, [1] ten years before Alabama became a state. Previously, the county had been a part of the Mississippi Territory until 1817, when the area was included in the separate Alabama Territory.
After Baldwin's death, the house was used as a girls' school until it was sold to local businessman William Reynolds in 1847. The house now serves as a museum. [3] The Baldwin–Reynolds House offers free tours in the summer. [4] It was home to two mayors. [5] The Crawford County Historical Society purchased the home in 1963.
