A trio of talking ravens narrate the real story of Hansel and Gretel, who are a prince and a princess. After being beheaded by their parents, the twins run away and search for a new and happy family. The pair embark on a winding and wickedly witty tale with elements of several other stories from the Brothers Grimm.
Hansel and Gretel are turned into children after a chase with a dog-shaped cookie destroys the building. Unable to get help from the S.M.C.A. as no one believes that the children are Hansel and Gretel, they seek the assistance of Baba Yaga, a witch rumored to eat children. They learn that the enchanted vanilla extract came from the swamplands.
The hag places Hansel in a cage to be fattened before she eats him. Gretel, however, is hung on a column of the house, reserved for some later purpose.
