Saorview also broadcasts a number of hidden channels and test cards, likely reserved for future services. These channels are not visible on most receivers and include blank TV and audio channels. On the radio side, Saorview provides a range of stations, including RTÉ Radio 1, 2FM, and several digital-only channels.
These include an Oireachtas Channel and an Irish Film Channel. The Oireachtas TV service currently broadcasts on Saorview channel 22. The Irish Film Board will oversee operation for the Irish Film Channel. By 2012, SAORVIEW offered 98% coverage for all channels. This was a significant improvement in free-to-air television coverage. There are currently two channels available to Saorsat viewers, three channels available to Saorview viewers, one-hundred-and-eleven channels available to Sky Ireland viewers and sixty-six channels available to Virgin Media Ireland viewers on their respective EPGs.
In August 2013 a report into Commercial DTT by Oliver & Ohlbaum was given to the BAI, the report outlined the main problems associated with DTT in Ireland including the lack of free-to-air services on Saorview. Based on this report the BAI have decided not to proceed with a licence competition for pay-DTT.

The RTÉ News channel is an Irish free-to-air news television network operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). The channel launched as RTÉ News Now available exclusively online on 12 June 2008. The channel began broadcasting as a free-to-air channel on 29 October 2010 on Saorview. The channel broadcasts free-to-air and commercial-free. [1]
